When it comes to Assessment, we need to work smarter, not harder. Let’s start the conversation! Join us online for a workshop outlining innovative and inspiring ideas to truly capture the learning progress of your music students in the classroom.

30 April – Primary School Workshop – Tess Laird
10:00 – 11:30am AWST

Tess Laird has been a music specialist for 33 years and holds a Masters in Music Studies from the University of Queensland.  She is an accredited lecturer for the Australian Kodály Certificate, is the Immediate past Chair of the Education Committee of Kodály Australia and has been awarded Honorary Life Membership with this organisation.  Tess has regularly provided professional development throughout Australia, and presented at the International Kodály Symposia in Scotland, Canada and Malaysia. During her career, Tess has demonstrated a solid commitment to providing quality music education in state schools, as well as helping to formulate Kodály Australia’s responses to the National Curriculum, and to the Victorian Parliament’s Enquiry into the Benefits of Music Education.  Tess has conducted various community choirs and ensembles in Toowoomba, and has a special interest in a cappella jazz performance and aural pedagogy.

7 May – Secondary School Workshop – Dr Jason Goopy
12:00 – 1:30pm AWST

This one-hour workshop will be followed by an opportunity to connect in break-out rooms with other music educators in your area to facilitate conversation and collaboration with like-minded music educators from your community.

Dr Jason Goopy is a Lecturer in Music Education at Edith Cowan University and draws upon 15 years of teaching Kodály-inspired music education in Queensland combined primary and secondary schools. He was previously Head of the Arts & Choral Coordinator at Ambrose Treacy College and prior was a Highly Accomplished Teacher at Brisbane Boys’ College where he established a daily music program for all students from Pre-Primary to Year 3. Jason is known for successfully developing inclusive programs that are rigorous and nurture multiple musical identities. He is the Vice President of the Australian Society for Music Education, Immediate Past President and Education Committee Convenor of Kodály Australia, and a tertiary education representative on the WA Music 11-12 Curriculum Advisory Committee.
