Katharine Finlayson

Honorary life membership is an award given to members of an organisation in recognition of their outstanding service and contributions. It is the highest level of membership recognition an organisation can bestow, and for Kodály ACT it is also a symbol of gratitude to our exceptional branch Past President, Katharine Finlayson. 

At our Annual General Meeting on 15 November 2024, current Secretary (Jaki Fraser) proposed that Katharine Finlayson be awarded Honorary Life Membership of Kodály Australia. The motion was seconded by Adrienne Cullity and strongly supported by all members of the 2024-2025 committee. 

The reasons for nominations were as follows: 

1. Longstanding commitment, loyalty and service as branch President of Kodály ACT (2015-2024). 
2. Advancing the fundamentals of Kodály music education throughout the ACT and surrounding New South Wales. This was through both her previous role as Executive Teacher, Professional Practice, Music and the Arts with the ACT Education Directorate, and as leader and presenter of many workshops presented by Kodály ACT.  
3. Demonstrating strong leadership of the Kodály ACT committee, as well as ably representing Kodály ACT on the National Council. Katharine’s leadership has set the standard for kindness, inclusivity and high-quality music education for Kodaly ACT. 

Katharine is such a passionate, committed and strong advocate for quality music education in the ACT, and supporting the work of the KMEIA. She is definitely a worthy recipient of Honorary Life Membership.
