WA: Spring into Kodály

Come join us face-2-face for a full day of Kodály-inspired Music Education professional learning. With musicianship sessions, classroom ideas, choral workshops, and more, this event will re-invigorate your teaching and inspire you through interactive, in-person sessions delivered by interstate Music Education specialists Tess Laird and Dr James Cuskelly OAM.

Tess Laird
Tess Laird has been a music specialist for 33 years and holds a Masters in Music Studies from the University of Queensland. She is an accredited lecturer for the Australian Kodály Certificate, is the Immediate past Chair of the Education Committee of Kodály Australia and has been awarded Honorary Life Membership with this organisation. Tess has regularly provided professional development throughout Australia, and presented at the International Kodály Symposia in Scotland, Canada and Malaysia. During her career, Tess has demonstrated a solid commitment to providing quality music education in state schools, as well as helping to formulate Kodály Australia’s responses to the National Curriculum, and to the Victorian Parliament’s Enquiry into the Benefits of Music Education. Tess has conducted various community choirs and ensembles in Toowoomba, and has a special interest in a cappella jazz performance and aural pedagogy.
Dr James Cuskelly OAM
Dr James Cuskelly OAM is music teacher at St Joseph’s School (Stanthorpe), Immediate Past President of the International Kodály Society, Director of the Summer School Music Program, Director of the Cuskelly College of Music, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland (School of Education).
James has a very broad base in education, having taught in Kindergarten, pre-school, primary and secondary classrooms as well as in tertiary institutions since 1987. His passion for music, and his ability to enthuse and bring about effective learning in students across all ages or abilities, is internationally recognized. James is committed to teacher training in music education, and consequently, is frequently asked to lead teacher in-service programs and workshops in a variety of teacher training programs including Australia, Malaysia, Scotland, England, Hungary, South Africa and New Zealand. Dr Cuskelly was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to music education in The Queen’s Birthday 2018 Honours List.
