Honorary Life Membership is Kodály Australia’s highest accolade and is given in recognition of an individual’s ongoing and highly significant contribution to the association and the Australian Kodály Movement.
Susan Fredline has played a vital role in both Kodály Queensland and Kodály Australia. She currently holds the roles of Treasurer for Kodály Queensland and Vice President of the Mackay Chapter. Over many years, Susan has contributed her time, expertise, and leadership to strengthening the governance and sustainability of Kodály organisations at both state and national levels.
During her tenure as National Treasurer from 2012 to 2019, Susan modernised the financial systems of Kodály Australia, transitioning from manual processes to digital platforms such as MYOB and Xero. Her work streamlined operations and established key resources, including the introduction of a PayPal system, significantly enhancing financial management across all branches and chapters.
Beyond her financial expertise, Susan has demonstrated an enduring commitment to nurturing the next generation of music educators. She is a passionate advocate for professional development, mentoring teachers at all stages of their careers, and actively promoting the Kodály philosophy. Recognising a need for targeted support, she was instrumental in developing professional learning opportunities for specialist music teachers within the Catholic Diocese of Toowoomba.
Susan continues to inspire and support educators, particularly in regional Queensland. In Mackay, she organises professional learning events, encourages participation in the Australian Kodály Certificate (AKC), and has generously contributed resources to support the Judy Creen Professional Development Fund.
Having received her Australian Kodály Certificate in 2005, Susan’s embodiment of the Kodály philosophy is evident in all aspects of her teaching, both in classroom and choral settings. Much of her career has been dedicated to teaching in rural and remote areas of Queensland, including Mt Isa, Longreach, Toowoomba, and her current role in Mackay.
Susan’s generosity, leadership, and unwavering commitment to music education have left a profound and lasting impact on her students, colleagues, and the broader Kodály community.
On behalf of Kodály Queensland, we thank Susan Fredline for her extraordinary contributions.
