The college has a strong community singing tradition\, supported by 7 choirs involving 240 singers aged from 10 to 18\, and taught by a team of highly accomplished and generous Kodaly trained teachers.  \nThe college boasts strong academic results in Senior Music with the class median being 15% above the state last year and the Music Extension class having a median score of 99%. His research doctorate in Music Education examined the participation of boys in a Kodaly based music education program. He holds a Master’s in music studies (choral conducting)\, an Australian Kodaly Certificate\, a Diploma in Education\, an Arts degree in literature\, and a Law degree.  \nA recipient of the Queensland College of Teachers Excellence in Teaching award\, and a Spirit of Catholic Education award\, Anthony serves the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority as an External Examiner\, and is the Chief Confirmer of Standards for Senior Music in Queensland. He has published articles on music education and choral conducting\, and contributed to books published by ACER\, Springer publications and Oxford University Press.  \nAnthony lectures in musicianship for the University of Queensland\, conducts the Queensland Conservatorium Singers\, and is in demand as a choral conductor internationally in school\, community\, festival\, and liturgical settings.  \nHe remains passionate about the future of music education in Australia and received a mentoring award from the Kodaly Music Education Institute of Australia in recognition of his work in the formation of young teachers.  \nAn active church musician\, he serves on the Brisbane Archdiocesan Commission on the Liturgy and is a member of the National Liturgical Music Council for the Catholic church in Australia.

DESCRIPTION:Kodály WA encourage members to attend the Kodály Australia National Conference; “New Voices in Harmony” in September 2024.  \n Members of the WA Branch who register to attend all four days of the Kodály Australia Conference are eligible for the Kodály WA National Conference Scholarship. \nA scholarship selection panel led by the President of Kodály WA (or their nominee) will offer three scholarships each worth $500. Successful applicants may use the scholarship to cover the costs of course registration\, flights or accommodation\, associated with attending the Kodály Australia National Conference. \nApplicants will: \n1. have been a financial member of Kodály WA for at least 1 year and reside in WA;\n 2. demonstrate an interest in the Kodály approach and outline their experience of it; \n 3. describe the ways that they anticipate their teaching practice will benefit as a result of their attendance at the 2024 Kodály Australia National Conference. \nSuccessful applicants are required to write a short article for the Kodály WA community outlining their experience attending the Kodály Australia National Conference and describe how their attendance at the conference has influenced their teaching. \nApplication Process \nTo apply\, complete this online application form. Along with her Bachelor of Education in Music\, Kimberley also has her Master of Music in Music Education with Kodály Emphasis from Holy Names University\, California Kimberley’s dedication to the Kodály method is highlighted by her accreditation as a lecturer for the Australian Kodály Certificate. After the birth of her daughter Freya in 2021\, Kimberley established her own music school\, Little House of Music. This venture reflects her passion for providing music education to a wide range of students\, from babies to adults. The inclusion of Professional Development opportunities for music teachers also demonstrates her commitment to enhancing the skills and knowledge of her fellow educators. Kimberley can also be found lecturing at Edith Cowan University across several Education Units. \nPamela’s session: How upper secondary teachers can integrate a Kodály approach to teaching ATAR Music. \nPamela Grubb is the Director of Music at St Mark’s Anglican Community School; an Anglican co-educational school with approximately 1900 students from K-12. During her career\, Tess has demonstrated a solid commitment to providing quality music education in state schools\, as well as helping to formulate Kodály Australia’s responses to the National Curriculum\, and to the Victorian Parliament’s Enquiry into the Benefits of Music Education.  Tess has conducted various community choirs and ensembles in Toowoomba\, and has a special interest in a cappella jazz performance and aural pedagogy. \n\nDr James Cuskelly OAM\nDr James Cuskelly OAM is music teacher at St Joseph’s School (Stanthorpe)\, Immediate Past President of the International Kodály Society\, Director of the Summer School Music Program\, Director of the Cuskelly College of Music\, and Adjunct Professor at the University of Queensland (School of Education). \nJames has a very broad base in education\, having taught in Kindergarten\, pre-school\, primary and secondary classrooms as well as in tertiary institutions since 1987. His passion for music\, and his ability to enthuse and bring about effective learning in students across all ages or abilities\, is internationally recognized. James is committed to teacher training in music education\, and consequently\, is frequently asked to lead teacher in-service programs and workshops in a variety of teacher training programs including Australia\, Malaysia\, Scotland\, England\, Hungary\, South Africa and New Zealand. Dr Cuskelly was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to music education in The Queen’s Birthday 2018 Honours List. \n
