The Kodaly workshop is for community singers\, school students year 9-12\, Uni students\, music teachers (primary & secondary)\, early childhood teachers\, studio teachers\, conductors\, and anyone else who wants to improve their skills in musicianship\, teaching methods (primary and secondary)\, choral conducting and strategies for singing. \nReka Csernik and Maree Hennessy’s combined passion for music\, ability to enthuse and to affect learning in students of all ages and abilities\, plus their commitment to excellence in music teacher training\, means they are in constant demand as teachers nationally and internationally \nPRESENTERS: \n\nReka Csernik is one of Australia’s foremost choral experts in choral conducting pedagogy and aural musicianship\, She earned her Masters degree in Music Education from the world renowned ‘Ferenc Lizst’ of Music in Budapest and has taught music at every level of education\, with wide experience in school and at university level. Reka is the director of Brisbane based Sola Voce Chamber Choir and the Choir of St Andrew’s Lutheran Church Brisbane.\n\n\nMaree Hennessy (Dip Teach\, BEd\, MMus) is an experienced teacher and lecturer in Music education having worked in Early Childhood\, Primary\, Secondary and Tertiary contexts. DESCRIPTION:PLACES STILL AVAILABLE SO REGISTER NOW! \n*Registered with the NSW Institute of Teachers for 6 hours of professional development \nPresenter: Mary-Jayne Smith is Head of Junior Music at Barker College\, Waitara (Australia) and\, in this role\, oversees the development and implementation of a Kodály based music education program at the College. \n\nMary Jayne Smith is a highly experienced music educator having worked at all levels from early childhood\, primary\, secondary and tertiary. She is currently Director of Junior School Music – Curriculum at Barker College where she is responsible for the writing and implementation of the K-6 music program. \nMary Jayne attended University of New England\, graduating with a Bachelor of Music\, Bachelor of Arts and Graduate Diploma of Education. Postgraduate study at University of NSW earned Mary Jayne a Masters Degree in Creative Arts Education. Other qualifications include the Australian Kodaly Certificate in Music Education and an Associate of Music Australia (AMusA) in Piano. \nMary Jayne has lectured for the NSW Kodaly teacher training courses\, for the University of Newcastle\, School of Humanities and from 2003 – 2005 she was Head of Early Childhood Music Programs at Central Coast Conservatorium of Music. He completed undergraduate studies and a Diploma of Education at the University of Queensland. The Kodály Certificate from Holy Names College (California) was awarded in 1991 and the Master of Music studies (The University of Queensland) in 1997. He gained the Doctor of Philosophy (The University of Queensland) in Music Education in 2007. He was Head of Music Education and the Aural Musicianship Program at the University of Queensland from 2000 – 2010\, and during that time received two awards for Excellence in Teaching. James has a very broad base in education\, having taught in pre-school\, primary and secondary classrooms as well as in tertiary institutions. His passion for music\, and his ability to enthuse and bring about effective learning in students across all ages or abilities\, is internationally recognized. James is committed to teacher training in music education\, and consequently\, is frequently asked to lead teacher in-service programs and workshops. James runs a variety of accredited teacher training programs including the Summer School Music Program (Brisbane) and programs in Malaysia and Thailand. A talented musician in his own right\, James is also a highly regarded choral conductor and clinician. He is founding Director of the Queensland Kodály Choir and conductor of the women’s performing ensemble\, Valency Ensemble. He runs choral workshops and is frequently invited to lead choral festivals and workshops\, and each year convenes a community choral festival in Brisbane\, The Big Sing. DESCRIPTION:A course in Level 2 Early Childhood (3 to 5 years) will be held during Semester I in 2014. This includes  60 hours of assessed course work in which participants can successfully complete certification in Level 2.  The course will be held on the following weekends: February 15th & 16th\, March 15th & 16th\, April 26th & 27th\, May 10th & 11th and  May 24th & 25th.  The final week end will be primarily an assessment week end.  The cost of this course is $200 for each week end\, payable on the Saturday of each course. \nAUDIT:  This includes 48 hours of non assessed course work in which participants can be awarded a certificate for the hours worked for professional development.  The course will be held on the following weekends:  February 15 & 16th\, March 15th & 16th\,  April 26th & 27th   and 10th & 11th May.  The cost of this course is $180 for each week end\, payable on the Saturday of each course. \nText books for the course are: “Music\, the Young Child and You” by Doreen Bridges\, “Music in Preschool” by Katalin Forrai and “Tickle Me” by Judith Johnson.  These are available from  www.soundthinkingaustralia.com  These texts are used for all three levels of the full certificate.  All other handouts will be provided at the course. \nEach day will begin at 9.00 am and finish at  4.00 pm.  Each day will include Musicianship\, Methods of Teaching\, Materials or Practice Teaching\, Resource Making and Research. \nIf you are interested in taking part in the course please email me\, Judith Johnson\, at c_s_m@bigpond.com  so that we can make final arrangements.  It would assist greatly if you can make a response before 28th January\, 2014.
