SUMMARY:Composition Workshop for Highschool Students (Years 9-12)
DESCRIPTION:Aspiring composers in Years 9  – 12 are invited to participate in a composition workshop with Dr David Banney. This is an opportunity for Senior students to develop their HSC/IB compositions. Younger students with an interest in developing their compositional skills are also encouraged to apply. Places are limited to maximise individual tuition. \nEach day will begin with a 2-hour Musicianship Class to develop your aural perception and harmony skills. DESCRIPTION:About the course:\nThese sessions will focus on topics related to the HSC. In particular\, it will give students the tools to improve their aural skills\, theoretical understanding\, and analysis. The approach will be based on the movable doh system\, although other systems will also be touched on. Students will learn how to apply this system to musical elements\, and will come away from the course with a variety of tools that they can apply in their preparations for the HSC. While the focus will be on developing skills for the HSC Music 2 syllabus\, Music 1 and Year 9 and 10 students who would like to improve their aural skills are welcome to attend. \nAbout the teacher:\nMichael Bradshaw is a music teacher at the Conservatorium High School in Sydney where he teaches classroom music. Hilary proceeded to undertake a post-graduate Diploma at the Zoltan Kodaly Institute of Music in association with the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music\, in Hungary in 2009. Hilary currently teaches students from Pre-kindy to Senior School classes at Presbyterian Ladies College\, Perth\, WA. She has directed 5 choirs at PLC since 2012. Prior to moving to Perth\, Hilary taught Music in a number of Primary and Secondary Schools in Ireland. Fun and hands-on activities and ideas to take straight to your students. \nWhen: Saturday 5th May \nWhere: Allendale Primary School\, 52 Wittenoon St\, Geraldton \nTime: 8:45am – 12:15pm \nPlease join us for a social lunch after the workshop (note that lunch is optional and is at your own cost). \nTimetable: \nPresenter: Rosalie Scott \n \nRosalie is a music teacher at Hale School and has been an advocate for Kodály in WA for many years.  She works in the classroom with all ages from Year 1 to Year 11 students and is a vocal/choral specialist. Along with her B. Ed (Primary) and B. Mus (Voice) from UWA\, Rosalie holds the Australian Kodály Certificate and is currently the President of KMEIA WA. She regularly presents workshops for KMEIA WA and is an accredited lecturer of the Australian Kodály Certificate. Recently\, Rosalie has begun to specialise in early literacy and numeracy development through singing\, movement and singing stories. He is an experienced music educator having taught in early childhood\, primary\, secondary and tertiary settings. In 2013\, Jason established the first Every Day Music program in Western Australia at Presbyterian Ladies’ College. He has served in executive roles for both the Australian Society for Music Education and the KMEIA\, is coordinator of the WA Australian Kodály Certificate Course\, and currently chairs the 2018 Kodály National Conference Organising Committee. Jason is a past recipient of the Sarolta Kodály Scholarship awarded by the International Kodály Society.
