SUMMARY:Kodály WA: 2026 National Conference Scholarship
DESCRIPTION:The Kodály Australia Conference will be held in Adelaide from 28 September – 1 October 2026. The conference  invites participants to explore the theme Sing • Move • Thrive — A Kodály Journey for Every Learner\, celebrating the power of music education to inspire and include every student.\nKodály WA encourages its members to support the Kodály Australia Conference and recognises that an interstate conference is a significant financial undertaking for participants. With that in mind\, members of the WA branch who register to attend all four days of the Kodály Australia Conference are eligible to apply for the 2026 WA Branch Kodály Australia Conference scholarship. \n A scholarship selection panel led by the President of Kodály WA will award up to four scholarships worth $500 for applicants who wish to attend the Kodály Australia Conference. Successful applicants may use the scholarship to cover the costs of conference registration\, flights or accommodation\, in relation to attendance at the conference. \nSelection Criteria:  \nApplicants will:\n1.  have been a financial member of Kodály WA for at least 1 year and reside in WA; \n2. be registering to attend all four days of the Kodály Australia Conference; \n3. demonstrate an interest in the Kodály approach and outline their experience of it; \n4. describe the ways that they anticipate their teaching practice will benefit as a result of their participation in the Kodály Australia Conference. \nKodály WA also asks that within 3 months of returning from the Kodály Australia Conference\, recipients of the scholarship write a short article for members outlining what they have learnt at the conference and how their participation in the event has influenced their teaching. \n \nApplications must be received no later than Wednesday 1 July 2026 \nSelection Process: \n1. Complete the application form. \n2. Email a copy of your CV with details of your qualifications\, experiences and contact details for at least one professional referee to wa@kodaly.org.au

DESCRIPTION:Kodály Queensland is excited to share with you our first volume of Australian rounds and partner songs\, Sing A-Round Australia. For many years\, we have sung songs about squirrels\, birch trees\, and snow; themes unfamiliar to Australian children. Our aim with this collection is to celebrate our uniquely Australian voice— music that reflects our own landscapes\, stories\, and experiences. \nQueensland is home to many outstanding composers\, and Kodály Queensland has been proud to commission this collection of rounds and partner songs from such a talented group. Composers who have contributed to this first volume include: Robert Burrell\, Joshua Clifford\, Bethany Elsworth\, Sheree Eyles\, Stuart Gillard\, Kate Littlewood\, Kylie Los\, Abigail Lui\, Sandra Millikin\, Debbie O’Shea\, Kath Ruhle\, Ian Ross Williams. \nThis collection will be made available at no cost to members. (More information about this will come soon.) We would like to invite you to a launch event where we will sing through the songs and celebrate their release. The conference invites music educators and the broader community to reflect on Kodály-inspired research and practice in the 21st Century. \n\n\n \nKodály NSW encourages its members to support the Kodály Australia Conference and recognises that an interstate conference is a significant financial undertaking for participants. With that in mind\, members of the NSW Branch who register to attend all four days of the Kodály Australia Conference are eligible to apply for the 2026 Kodály NSW National Conference Scholarship. \n \nKodály NSW is offering three scholarships which will cover the cost of registration for applicants who wish to attend the Kodály Australia Conference. \n\n\nWhat do Scholarships Cover? \n\n\n\n3 scholarships will be awarded;\n\n\n\n\nThese will cover registration for all sessions.\n\n\n\n\nScholarship recipients will be responsible for all other costs associated with attending the conference\, including\, but not limited to\, transportation\, accommodation\, meals and extra activities.\n\n\n\nSelection Criteria  \n\n\nSuccessful applicants will: \n\n\n\nBe a financial member of Kodály NSW and reside in NSW (go to kodaly.org.au to become a member); \n\n\n\n\nRegister to attend all four days of the Kodály Australia Conference;\n\n\n\n\n\nOutline their professional background and provide an overview of their interest and experience in the Kodály approach;\n\n\n\n\nDescribe the ways they anticipate their teaching practice will benefit from participating in the Kodály Australia Conference.\n\n\n\nScholarship Requirements \n\n\n\nComplete the application form by Friday 17 June 2026: (late applications will not be considered)\n\n\n\nKodály NSW 2024 National Conference Scholarship Application Form \n\n\n\nSuccessful applicants will be required to make a report to Kodály NSW within 1 month of the Conference.

DESCRIPTION:Kodaly WA is excited to announce that Dr Anthony Young (QLD) will be the key-note presenter for the Kodály WA 2026 Autumn Workshop at Trinity College!  \n \nDr Anthony Young is Head of Classroom Music at St. Laurence’s College in South Brisbane. The college has a strong male community singing tradition\, supported by 7 choirs involving 240 singers aged from 10 to 17 and taught by a team of highly accomplished and generous teachers.  \nHis research doctorate in Music Education examined the participation of boys in a Kodaly based music education program. He holds a Masters in Music Studies (choral conducting)\, an Australian Kodaly Certificate\, an Arts degree in literature\, and a Law degree. A recipient of the Queensland College of Teachers Excellence in Teaching award\, Anthony serves the QCAA as a Lead Endorser\, Lead Confirmer and Lead External Examiner. He has contributed to books on Music Education and Choral Conducting published by ACER\, Springer publications and Oxford University Press.  \nAnthony lectures in musicianship for the University of Queensland and is in demand as a choral conductor internationally in school\, community\, festival\, and liturgical settings.  \nAUTUMN WORKSHOP \n This workshop will focus on Kodaly-inspired teaching for upper primary- secondary students. Jason’s research monograph\, Teenage boys\, musical identities and music education: An Australian narrative inquiry\, is published through Routledge. He is currently leading funded research projects investigating how music education supports the mental health and wellbeing of young people and the impact of community-based music teacher professional development courses. \n

She is currently working in regional Western Australia at John Paul College and the International School of Music\, Kalgoorlie. \nAn Australian Kodály Certificate accredited lecturer in Primary and Secondary Music Pedagogy with an interest in the transformational power of Music Education\, Rosalie welcomes every opportunity to engage with colleagues in sharing ideas and expertise across all areas of Music Education. \nAndrew Pennay \n \nAndrew Pennay is Director of Creative Arts at Brisbane Girls Grammar School. He has lectured in music education at a tertiary level and presented nationally and internationally on popular music education\, musicianship\, upper secondary teaching methodology\, and teaching for creativity and curiosity. \nFor 12 years\, he was a performer and Assistant Conductor with The Australian Voices\, touring new Australian choral music globally. Andrew has received a National Award for Excellence in School Music Education (2011) and an Award for Excellence in Australian Kodály-inspired Music Education (Innovation) in 2022. He is currently undertaking doctoral studies in songwriting pedagogy. \nMaree Hennessy \n \nMaree is a recognized educational leader\, professional development facilitator\, and mentor with extensive experience in teaching and leadership in schools\, in early childhood\, higher education\, and in community settings. \nMaree is a lead facilitator for Kodály education teacher training courses in Australia\, South Africa and New Zealand. She currently teaches at Brisbane Boys’ College (Brisbane) in the Music Every Day program. \nMelissa Mason\n \nMelissa Mason is a Primary Music Teacher at Dayton Primary School\, where she teaches Kindy Year 6 and runs a Junior and Senior Choir. Melissa also co-conducts the Smalley ensemble of Western Australian Young Voices (WAYV) and teaches piano students after school. She has completed Primary 1-3 and Secondary 1 AKC levels and is deeply passionate about promoting best practice in music education \nSession Title: Making Learning Stick: Merging Kodály and Weekly Review for Musical Mastery \nFreya Petersen \n\nFreya Petersen studied viola performance before beginning her music education training. DESCRIPTION:Come and enjoy a weekend of choral singing with expert choral educator Allison Harrigan\nDevelop your choral ensemble skills\nEnjoy making music with like-minded musicians\nWorking knowledge of solfa required\nThe weekend will conclude with a performance of the works studied\n\nThis 2 day event is for participants of the 2025 AKC.\nOther interested teachers and students are welcome to join us! \nPresenter: Allison Harrigan\nDate: Saturday and Sunday 23-24th August 2025\nVenue: St Andrew’s Cathedral School\nTime: 9:00 am – 4.00 pm \nMEMBERS: $220\nNON-MEMBERS: $290 (includes 1 year membership)\nStudents: $110 \nREGISTER HERE \nThis event will not be catered. \nAllison Harrigan  \n \nAllison completed her Bachelor of Music with honours at the University of Melbourne and her Masters degree in Choral Conducting and Aural Training at the University of Queensland. She enjoyed many years as a Kodaly classroom music education specialist across both primary and secondary schools before lecturing in Kodaly methodology for Kodaly Victoria and Kodaly NSW. Allison spent many years lecturing in choral conducting\, aural training and music education at tertiary institutions including Victoria’s Monash University and Melba Conservatorium and Queensland’s University of Technology. She is active in the promotion and development of Australian choirs and quality music education and has fulfilled committee roles for Kodaly Victoria and the Australian National Choral Association. Allison is a sought after guest choral conductor and respected clinician and adjudicator at festivals and eisteddfods nationwide. She is particularly proud of her role in commissioning and premiering more than thirty new choral works to add to the body of Australian choral music. Allison has enjoyed creating numerous recordings of Australian choral music and many international tours as both choral accompanist and conductor. Upon moving to Sydney from Melbourne\, she served as Director of Choral Education at Gondwana Choirs and continues her long association with this organisation through leading choirs at National Choral School. Allison has proudly served as the Musical Director of Choirs at SCEGGS’ Darlinghurst for the past twelve years and the co-conductor of the NSW Arts Unit’s Senior Singers since 2024. Her freelance work this year includes presenting for teacher professional development programs run by the Australian Youth Orchestra and Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
