Topics covered will include: Choice of repertoire\, making the most of repertoire by recycling\, key musical skills to be covered in early years plus use of picture books to support musical learning.  \nPRESENTER BIOGRAPHY \nLucinda Geoghegan graduated in music from the University of Edinburgh in 1982\, completed a postgraduate teaching qualification at Moray House College of Education and trained with the Kodály Institute of Britain under Cecilia Vajda where she gained an Advanced Diploma in musicianship with Distinction. She worked as a Secondary music teacher before deciding to specialise in Primary and Early Years Music Education. She was also member of staff with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Junior Chorus for 16 years and was Director of the National Youth Choir of Scotland (NYCOS) West Lothian Choir for 8 years. \nLucinda has a strong commitment to training in music education according to the Kodály concept and delivers workshops around the world. In addition\, she is currently Creative Learning Director for NYCOS\, a Musicianship Lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland\, a tutor for the Benedetti Foundation and a regular tutor and Chair of the Education Planning Board for the British Kodály Academy. In 2017 Lucinda was elected as a Director on the Board of the International Kodály Society. \nPublications written by Lucinda for NYCOS include – Singing Games and Rhymes for Tiny Tots\, Singing Games and Rhymes for Early Years (Books 1 and 2) Singing Games and Rhymes for Middle Years (Books 1 and 2) and with Dr László Nemes Singing Games and Rhymes for ages 9 to 99. With Christopher Bell she wrote the musicianship programme Go for Bronze\, Go for Silver and Go for Gold. \n                                    \n

Dr Cuskelly completed undergraduate studies and a Diploma of Education at the University of Queensland. The Kodály Certificate from Holy Names College (California) was awarded in 1991 and the Master of Music studies (The University of Queensland) in 1997. He gained the Doctor of Philosophy (The University of Queensland) in Music Education in 2007. He was Head of Music Education and the Aural Musicianship Program at the University of Queensland from 2000 to 2010 and during that time received two awards for Excellence in Teaching.James has a very broad base in education\, having taught in pre-school\, primary and secondary classrooms as well as in tertiary institutions. His passion for music\, and his ability to enthuse and bring about effective learning in students across all ages or abilities\, is internationally recognized. James is committed to teacher training in music education\, and consequently\, is frequently asked to lead teacher in-service programs and workshops. James runs a variety of accredited teacher training programs including the Summer School Music Program (Brisbane) and programs in Malaysia and Thailand.A talented musician in his own right\, James is also a highly regarded choral conductor and clinician. He is founding Director of the Queensland Kodály Choir and conductor of the women’s performing ensemble\, Valency Ensemble. He runs choral workshops and is frequently invited to lead choral festivals and workshops\, and since 1996\, has convened the annual community choral festival in Brisbane\, The Big Sing. James embodies Zoltan Kodaly’s vision of allowing people of all abilities\, ages and backgrounds to access the best quality music. His humbleness and ability to work with a diverse range of people is lauded\, especially in the choral world. James has been involved in the Australian Kodály Summer Training Programs since their inception. As president of the International Kodály Society\, James is well known as a global leader in terms of the Kodály philosophy of music education. He has a deep commitment to music education and teacher training and has a distinguished track record in organising and delivering courses of the highest professional standard. He is also a member of the Queensland Advisory Committee and the Australian Music Examinations Board. James has a very broad base in education\, having taught in Kindergarten\, pre-school\, primary and secondary classrooms as well as in tertiary institutions since 1987. Dr Cuskelly was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to music education in The Queen’s Birthday 2018 Honours List. \nRéka Csernyik \n \nRéka Csernyik is one of Australia’s foremost experts in choral conducting\, choral conducting pedagogy and aural musicianship.  \nBorn in Hungary\, Réka earned Master degrees in Music Education\, Choral Conducting and Church Music from the world renowned Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music\, Budapest. She has taught music at every level of education – with wide experience in primary and secondary schools as well as at university level. Réka held the position of Co-ordinator of Choral Conducting and lecturer of Aural Musicianship at University of Queensland from 2004 to 2010. In recognition of her work\, she received the prestigious Award for Teaching Excellence in 2009.  \nIn 2015\, Réka commenced her role of Co-ordinator of Kodály Pedagogy at the Conservatorium of High School in Sydney. Réka has also implemented the Kodály approach in the classroom music program that is now the foundation of the school’s music teaching and learning. In the school\, she re-vitalised and re-organised the extensive Choral Ensemble Program with great success. \nRéka’s expertise is highly sought after within Australia and overseas. She has regular engagements as a guest lecturer\, clinician\, adjudicator and workshop facilitator. Réka has presented papers and workshops at national and international conferences on Australian choral repertoire\, music education with an emphasis on the Kodály approach. Her recent presentations include Kodály Summer Program\, Brisbane (Australia)  Kodály Course Introduction\, Napier (New Zealand) Kodály Winter School\, Perth (Australia)\, a lecture on Kodály’s Pedagogical Ideas\, Sydney Conservatorium (Australia)\, a lecture and workshop on Practice in the Classroom\, Sydney Conservatorium (Australia)\, guest presenter at KMEIA Queensland’s biennial conference\, Brisbane (Australia)\, workshops\, rehearsals and performance at KANTA Choral Festival\, Manila (The  Philippines) as well as a number of online presentations. \nRéka was founder and director of Sola Voce Chamber Choir. Under Réka’s directorship the ensemble has toured extensively and won numerous national and international awards including first prize for Vocal Ensemble at the International Choral Festival in Neuchatel\, Switzerland in 2010\, numerous first prizes in the Canberra National Eisteddfod in 2008 and several prestigious awards including the Grand Prix (overall winner) at the 19th International Festival of Academic Choirs at Pardubice\, Czech Republic in 2006. At this Festival\, Réka’s conducting won her the award for Best Conductor of the Competition. \nRecently\, Réka has returned to Hungary\, however\, due to online learning being introduced in the World\, she has a permanent engagement with the Conservatorium High School in Sydney. Additionally\, she has established online collaboration with various music teachers and colleagues from all over the world\, including Australia\, New Zealand\, Japan\, Thailand\, The Philippines\, India\, Germany\, Italy and the UK.

She is an enthusiastic music educator who loves inspiring the imaginations of all children to grow their love and involvement in Music. \nPamela Grubb \n \nPamela Grubb is the Director of Music at St Mark’s Anglican Community School; a K-12 co-ed school with approximately 1800 students. She is an experienced music educator who specialises in secondary education & choral singing and has completed all three Secondary levels of the Australian Kodály Certificate.  \n  \nBunbury – Click here to view the timetable for Bunbury \nKimberley Lloyd \n \nKimberley Lloyd is a Music Teacher\, Choral Conductor and String Director at Trinity College in East Perth. She is an experienced music educator having taught in Scotland\, America and Australia in Early Childhood\, Primary and Secondary settings. Along with her Bachelor of Education in Music with Honours from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland\, Kimberley holds the Australian Kodály Certificate in Secondary Education and recently graduated from Holy Names University\, California with a Masters of Music in Music Education with Kodály Emphasis. \nHilary Price \n \nHilary Price-Keegan teaches classroom music to students from Early Years through to Senior School\, and is the Head of Choral at Presbyterian Ladies’ College\, Perth. Hilary holds a Music Education Degree from Trinity College\, Dublin\, a post-graduate Diploma from the Kodaly Institute of Music\, Liszt Academy of Music\, Hungary\, and was recently awarded the highest Honours in Masters of Music\, in Music Education (with a Kodály emphasis)\, from Holy Names University\, California. At UQ\, he has held numerous positions in lecturing\, assessment and curriculum development for undergraduate and postgraduate courses within the School of Music and School of Education. His doctoral research investigates adolescent boys’ music beliefs\, values and identity work in an independent school. Jason is the National President of Kodály Australia\, a Council member of the Australian Society for Music Education Queensland Chapter and the Representative of the Queensland Catholic Education Commission for the Queensland Advisory Committee for the Australian Music Examinations Board. He is frequently invited to present in Australia on music education and aural musicianship\, and has presented workshops and academic papers at national and international conferences. \n \nKate Thompson is a frequent lecturer and guest presenter at conferences and workshops. She has presented Kodaly Training Courses in Brisbane\, Sydney\, Perth\, Auckland\, Hawkes Bay and Kuala Lumpur. Kate is a Past President of Kodaly Queensland (KMEIA) and has also conducted choirs of various ages for Voices of Birralee. He is currently Artistic Director of the Queensland Show Choir and music specialist at Mount Alvernia College in Brisbane. Daniel holds a Master of Music Studies in Aural Pedagogy\, Master of Educational Leadership\, a Bachelor of Music majoring in Voice\, a Bachelor of Education and the Australian Certificate in Kodály Music Education. He has held several middle and senior leadership positions in schools and was the recipient of a National Award for Excellence in Music Education. He is a regular lecturer nationally and internationally in musicianship\, choral conducting and classroom methodology and has held casual positions at The University of Queensland and the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. He has been part of the Cuskelly College of Music Education Faculty for over 10 years as a leader of secondary courses and is a regular lecturer as part of the Australian Kodaly Certificate in Western Australia. Daniel has a sincere passion for both music education for all and the importance of choral singing in establishing a strong sense of community. \n\n\n\nSONY DSC \n\n\nRéka Csernyik is one of Australia’s foremost experts in choral conducting\, choral conducting pedagogy and aural musicianship. She has taught music at every level of education – with wide experience in primary and secondary schools as well as at university level. Réka held the position of Co-ordinator of Choral Conducting and lecturer of Aural Musicianship at University of Queensland between 2004 and 2010. Réka has regular engagements as a guest lecturer\, adjudicator and workshop facilitator within Australia and overseas. She was founder and director of Sola Voce Chamber Choir. In 2015\, Réka commenced her new role of Co-ordinator of Kodály Pedagogy at the Conservatorium High School in Sydney. \n\n\n\n \nMicheál McCarthy spent 14 years studying at the Cork School of Music\, Ireland. He is a graduate of University College Cork\, Ireland and the Zoltán Kodály Pedagogical Institute of Music in Kecskemét\, Hungary\, where he studied under Péter Erdei. Micheál has held positions at the Canberra School of Music – Australian National University\, the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music\, and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts – Edith Cowan University. He offers a unique form of training to students of every age from 5 years through to university level. He is also the Director of the Cottage Music Institute. Micheál conducts regular workshops for teachers\, students\, and community organisations in Australia and overseas; his workshops have featured at national and international conferences and festivals.

DESCRIPTION:Preliminary Notice of Annual General Meeting\nKodály Music Education Institute of Australia Western Australian Branch Inc. \n6.00pm\, Thursday 15th November 2018\nYou are invited by the Branch Committee of the Kodály Music Education Institute of Australia Western Australian Branch Incorporated (KMEIA WA Inc) to attend the 2018 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Branch. \nThe meeting will be held in the John Inverarity Music and Drama Centre\, Hale School. Parking is available off Unwin Avenue\, Wembley Downs. \nThe next notice of the AGM will include the Agenda\, the President’s Report\, the Treasurer’s Financial Statement and the Auditor’s Report. \nRSVP your AGM attendance to the secretary by emailing wa@kodaly.org.au. \nPost AGM Dinner – Clancy’s Fish Pub \nFollowing the AGM\, members are invited attend an informal dinner celebrating our achievements for the year at Clancy’s Fish Pub\, City Beach (195 Challenger Parade\, City Beach). All positions will be declared vacant\, including President (Chairperson)\, Vice President (Vice-Chairperson)\, Secretary\, Treasurer and Ordinary Committee Members. We would like to remind our members that the committee meetings can be facilitated via Skype\, and so distance need not be an issue for you to join. \nIf you are interested in being on the committee\, please complete the attached nomination form and send it to the Branch Secretary by 8th November 2018 by scanning and emailing it to wa@kodaly.org.au or post to KMEIA WA PO Box 1073\, CLAREMONT WA 6910. \nWhen completing the nomination form\, please make sure that you sign and date it\, and that your scan is legible. You are also permitted to either propose or second your own nomination. Please note that all persons on the nomination form must be current financial members of the association. In 2018\, Perth is hosting the Kodály National Conference AND a full Australian Kodály Certificate Course. Plan to be there! Register now!\nAKC Course Information: \nHeld over two blocks delivered across the term 2 and term 3 school holidays\, a Primary and Secondary Level 1\, 2 and 3\, as well as an Early Childhood Level 2 teacher training course will be running in Perth 2018. \nSuccessful completion will allow participants to complete Level 2 and 3 in subsequent years to fulfil the requirements of the Australian Kodály Certificate. \n \nDates: \nBlock 1 (6 days):       Sunday 1 July – Friday 6 July 2018 \nBlock 2 (4 1/2 days):       Sunday 30 October – Thursday 4 October 2018** \n*Participants must complete the full 10 days to be awarded their Certificate. \n**Participants should note that block 2 of the AKC will be delivered concurrent to the 2018 Kodály National Conference. DESCRIPTION:Ideas\, Games and Inspiration: A half-day PD packed with activities you can take straight to your classroom.\nWhether you are a classroom teacher or an instrumental teacher\, come along to experience Kodály-inspired ideas that will engage your learners and support their musical skills. Fun and hands-on activities and ideas to take straight to your students. \nWhen: Saturday 5th May \nWhere: Treendale Primary School\, Opal Drive\, Australind \nTime: 8:45am – 12:15pm\nPlease join us for a social lunch after the workshop (note that lunch is optional and is at your own cost). \nTimetable: \n \nPresenter: Hilary Price \n \nHilary Price studied Music Education at Trinity College Dublin in association with the Royal Irish Academy of Music\, where she achieved her Bachelor Degree in Music Education. Hilary proceeded to undertake a post-graduate Diploma at the Zoltan Kodaly Institute of Music in association with the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music\, in Hungary in 2009. Hilary currently teaches students from Pre-kindy to Senior School classes at Presbyterian Ladies College\, Perth\, WA. She has directed 5 choirs at PLC since 2012. Prior to moving to Perth\, Hilary taught Music in a number of Primary and Secondary Schools in Ireland. Two of the PLC choirs\, directed by Hilary will perform at the upcoming National Conference in Perth in October 2018. Hilary has also presented at a number of Professional development workshops including events hosted by KMEIA WA and ASME. \nHilary is committed to promoting and developing a positive and dynamic learning environment through inclusive\, active music participation for all. Literacy and numeracy begin with education in the Arts\, beginning with Early Years students.
